Cognitive Rehabilitation

Cognitive Rehabilitation is the process of relearning cognitive skills that were lost or altered as a result of an injury to the brain, an illness, an accident, neurological changes or general age related changes. Cognitive areas of concern are often, but not limited to, attention, memory loss, impaired processing, disorganization of thoughts and forgetfulness

 

Within OT, cognitive skills are learned or new ones are taught, to help compensate for their loss. Inherent within Cognitive Rehab is Education, Process training, Strategy training and Functional activities training. Internal and external stressors tend to exacerbate cognitive functioning. Addressing stress related concerns is imperative in the recovery process. 

 

The following conditions that can benefit from Cognitive Rehabilitation:
